Economic empowerment is the process of increasing one’s ability to generate income and achieve financial security. It is a key factor in reducing poverty and inequality, and it can also have a positive impact on health, education, and other aspects of well-being.

In vulnerable and low-income communities, Kafaalo works to improve economic empowerment through a number of interventions, including:

• Skills training: Providing people with the skills they need to find good jobs or start their own businesses is an essential step in economic empowerment. We do this through formal education programs, vocational training, or on-the-job training.
• Access to finance: Lack of access to financial services can be a major barrier to economic empowerment. By working with governmental bodies, donors, and the private sector, Kafaalo helps low-income families and community members get access to microfinance and credit microcredits to start their own sustainable, income-generating small businesses.
• Support for entrepreneurship: Entrepreneurship can be a powerful way to achieve economic empowerment. However, entrepreneurs in vulnerable communities often face challenges such as a lack of access to markets, information, and networks. In coordination with different stakeholders, we provide support to entrepreneurs through business development services, mentorship, and access to markets.
• Empowerment of women: Women are disproportionately represented among the poor in Ethiopia, especially in the Somali Region. Empowering women economically can have a significant impact on poverty reduction and gender equality. Kafaalo contributes to women’s empowerment through programs that promote women’s education, leadership, and participation in the workforce.
